Officine Panerai has roots dating back to 1860 when the company was
founded in Florence, Italy, by Giovanni Panerai. Panerai built its solid
reputation on supplying precision timekeeping instruments to the
Italian navy and developing waterproof watches for soldiers who found
themselves in extreme environments. More recently, the company moved its
headquarters to Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where they have been producing
quality in-house manufacture movements.
Officine Panerai first prototyped the
Radiomir in 1936 and the watch became lauded for its particularly high
degree of water-resistance due to its conical screw-down winding crown
and screw-down case back. As a part of their Historic Collection,
today’s Radiomir is a celebration of a classic timepiece by a compelling
manufacturer.
This stealthy hand-wound mechanical
Radiomir is a refined timepiece, to be sure. It is driven by Panerai’s
exclusive OP XI caliber with 17 jewels, 16.5 lignes, 21,600 vph, a
Glucydur Balance, and an Incabloc anti-shock device. It has a 56-hour
power reserve.
The subtle, unassuming ceramic case
with a hard-black coating has removable wire loop strap attachments,
which are patented, and a fixed black ceramic bezel. The ceramic used in
this watch is composed of zirconium oxide, which is worked as a powder
using an isostatic pressure process that enhances its extreme hardness
and great resistance to extreme temperatures and corrosion.
The case measures a profound 45 mm in
diameter, is 14 mm in height, and rests upon a green leather Panerai
strap that possesses a hard-black-coated stainless steel buckle. This
fantastic watch features a ceramic Panerai-personalized screw-in crown, a
closed screw-down case back with hard-black coating, and an impressive
water resistance to 100 m / 10 atm.
Beneath the antireflective sapphire
crystal one encounters a minimal black-colored dial. The sleek and
refined hands, prominent Arabic numerals, stick markers, and small
seconds counter at 9 o’clock are all luminous.
A sleek and sophisticated watch in every regard, we are confident it will make an intriguing addition to your collection.
