Famed Swiss manufacture Girard-Perregaux
has roots dating back to the eighteenth century. Many of their
precision timepieces have won prestigious awards, and they hold the
historical distinction of being perhaps the first watchmakers to produce
men’s timepieces specifically designed to be worn upon the wrist.
Over
the years acclaimed auto giant Ferrari has partnered with various watch
producers to create exciting timepieces. To be sure, their
collaboration with Girard-Perregaux continued that tradition of
distinction. Both companies entered into the partnership to create
series of watches commemorating a variety of Ferrari models in 1993.
This
Girard-Perregaux Ferrari model was created by special request in very
limited series of only 40 models in 1996. The self-winding automatic
movement with 57 jewels is driven by Girard-Perregaux’s 22805.930
caliber and beats at 28,800 vph.
The
sporty and round high polished stainless steel case measures 38 mm in
diameter, the fixed bezel is brushed to deflect reflection in sunny
conditions, case height is 12.5 mm, and possesses a slightly domed
sapphire crystal, a push / pull winding crown, and a 30 m / 3 atm of
water resistance. The engraved case back shows off the classic Prancing
Horse Ferrari logo. The case rests upon a matte black brand new Girard
Perregaux alligator leather strap with a Girard Perregaux stainless
steel deployant buckle.
The black-colored dial is printed with beige-colored Arabic numerals and white minute track on the outer part. There
is a small seconds subdial at 3 o’clock, the chronograph functions
include a 12-hour register at 6, a central chronograph hand, and
30-minute counter at 9. Modernes-shaped hands are lacquered in white
paint with luminous insets. There's a date window positioned between 4
and 5 o'clock marks on the dial.
This
limited-edition Girard-Perregaux Ferrari model celebrates both
excellence in watchmaking as well as the historic car manufacturer.
Standout feature(s): Limited-edition
timepiece—only 40 pieces produced; exciting collaboration between
Ferrari and Girard-Perregaux; case back engraved with the classic
Ferrari logo; moderate case size, robust in-house movement.
