Omega has always been driven by a pioneering spirit; in fact, no
watch company in the world holds more records for accuracy. Their
watches have been the timepiece of choice for some of history’s greatest
explorers—from deep-sea divers to astronauts.
Produced from 2004 through 2012, “From
the Moon to Mars” Speedmasters are a most special and truly unique
series of timepieces. Take note, this timepiece of celestial proportions
is also part of a numbered edition.
First, in what will surely serve as a
fascinating conversation piece, you will find photorealistic depictions
of three heavenly bodies upon the black-colored dial: in the small
seconds counter at 9 we have home base, Earth itself; at 3 o’clock,
within the 30-minute chronograph counter we find the red planet, Mars;
and, last but not least, within the 12-hour chronograph counter at 6 we
have Earth’s Moon.
The inspiration behind this arrangement
comes from an idea the U.S. government and NASA discussed where the
moon would be used as a launchpad to visit Mars. Seeing as Speedmaster
timepieces have been used in all six lunar missions, it is only
appropriate that there be a celebration of this next step in exploration
by way of an exciting Speedmaster watch.
As a manually wound timepiece with a
48-hour power reserve, you will find the famed Omega 1861 caliber in the
engine room. And, in celebration of the original moon watches of the
1960s, you will find that this piece possesses a hesalite, not a
sapphire, crystal.
The stainless steel case measures 42 mm
in diameter and rests upon a stainless steel bracelet with a fold-over
clasp. Additional features include a convenient tachymetre scale upon
the black-colored bezel, a screw-down winding crown, and a 50 m / 5 atm
water resistance.
From its otherworldly stylings to its
reputation for excellence, we are confident that this Omega Speedmaster
“From The Moon To Mars” timepiece will make an essential addition to
your collection.
Standout feature(s): Thrilling
dial design that features Earth, Mars, and the Moon; numbered edition;
convenient tach scale; historic stylings such as hesalite crystal and
Omega 1861 caliber.
