The famed Japanese watch company Seiko traces its roots back to a watch and jewelry shop that first opened in 1881 in Tokyo’s Ginza district. The Seiko 5 Sports line dates back to 1968, but it brilliantly reemerged in 2019. Seiko 5 Sports watches are a celebration of Street Fighter V, the latest edition of the world-famous Player VS Player fighting game. Seiko has produced six timepieces inspired by the game’s central characters: Blanka, Chun-Li, Guile, Ken, Ryu, and Zangief.

Special details specific to this Zangief model include design features souped up to show Zangief’s strength, such as the impactful magnified day / date window, the bold and oversized Arabic numerals found at 12, 6, and 9, and the circular guilloche-patterned dial that references Zangief’s “Cyclone Lariat” special move. This is a limited-edition watch, with only 9,999 pieces produced. The rugged PVD-coated stainless steel case measures 42.5 mm in diameter, 13.38 mm in height, and rests upon a vibrant yellow and red fabric strap with a PVD-coated stainless steel tang buckle.

Other case features include a unidirectionally rotating bezel that matches Zangief’s gold belt, an exhibition case back, a Hardlex crystal, a 100 m / 10 atm water resistance, and a push / pull winding crown, uniquely found at 4 o’clock.

As a self-winding automatic watch, it is driven by the 4R26 caliber, which delivers a 41-hour power reserve and has 24 jewels. Its attractive red guilloche-patterned dial sports Lumibrite hands and applied hour markers for easy viewing in low light, a center seconds hand, and a magnified day / date window at 3 o’clock.
