Founder: Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Czapek founded the company in 1839.

History: The companies original name was Patek, Czapek and Co. Czapek left the company and Patek met Jean Philippe and they began making watches together and produced their first watch with keyless winding in 1844. Needless to say the company name was changed. One year later they created their first pocket watch with a minute repeater. The company changed its name to Patek Philippe et Cie in 1851. The company created the first Swiss wristwatch in 1868. For about half a century, the company patented something new every few years. In 1916 the Patek Philippe et Cie created the first complicated ladies watch, featuring a minute repeater. 6 years later the company made the first split seconds chronograph wristwatch. The Stern brothers purchased the company in 1932. The Supercomplication pocket watch was created in 1933, and for 56 years was the most complex watch in the world. During the pre and post WWII era the company yet again created many different patents. The first all-electronic watch was created in 1956. To honor the 150 years of the company, Patek Philippe created the most complicated watch to beat out its previous model of the Supercomplication. Then again in 2002, the company produced the Sky Moon Tourbillon their most complex wristwatch to date. The company continues to create and work on many innovative ideas.
